MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR LIPS

Bright, Matte, Glossy, Soft, Natural, Dark:  All these styles of lip color application can be fun to wear!  Now you can learn which will flatter you and how to make the most of your lips!

LIP BASICS:   Keep your lips soft and in good condition by using a rich lip balm overnight.  For peeling lips, a light scrub can be applied, followed with a moisturizing lip balm; avoid use of dry consistency lip colors until the lips are healed.  Lip balm can also be used as a first layer underneath lip color if the lips have a tendency to be dry, as this will help the lip color product more apply evenly and smoothly.  However, note that applying too much of an oily lip balm prior to lip color application can cause lip color to fade quickly or ‘bleed’.

LIP LINER PENCILS:  Highly-pigmented lip liner pencils will help keep your lip color fresher longer.  Using a lip liner will also provide a barrier to prevent any ‘bleeding’ of the lip color outside the lip line.  For added staying power, use a light dusting of face powder just along the lip line before applying lip liner.

~  When selecting a lip liner shade, choose one that most closely matches your lip gloss or lipstick.  To apply, follow your natural lip line with the tip of the pencil.  For extra long wear, try using your highly-pigmented lip pencil to color in your lips a bit before you apply your lip gloss or lipstick.

~   Lip liner can enhance or correct the shape of the lips.  For instance, if one side of the upper or lower lip is slightly uneven, using the lip liner to correct the line is a great solution.   Skillfully correcting the shape of the lips may require practice to achieve the most natural result.

~   You can also enlarge the shape of the lips slightly by drawing a lip line outside your natural lip line - this technique should be practiced and done very carefully to avoid looking overdone and unnatural.

~  Lip liner pencils can also be used as lip color by outlining the lips with the tip of the pencil first, then turning the tip on its side and ‘coloring in’ the lips, smudging the pencil across the lips.  Top with a small amount of clear lip gloss or clear lip balm to finish.

~  Keeping your lip liner pencils sharpened will aid you in control and precise application.

LIP COLORThere are many colors and formulations of lip color available - cream, shimmer, matte, sheer and gloss.

~  If using a traditional lipstick in a tube, for a most precise and even application try using an angle-tipped lip brush.  This brush can also be used with a high-pigment Lip Gloss product to control the amount of color pigment and to evenly apply shine.

~  Some high-pigment or matte lipsticks and lip glosses can have a drier consistency.  Apply a light lip balm prior to using these lip products.

TO CREATE A POUTY LIP:

~   After outlining the lip line, use the lip liner pencil  to ‘color in’ the outside corners of the lips prior to applying lip color.  Coloring in the outside corners will provide depth, while your lip color or lip gloss  will provide fullness.

~  Two lip colors can be blended to add contour and fullness to the lips by using the following principle:  LIGHTER colors (and shine) create fullness, while DARKER tones add depth and definition.  Shiny high-pigment lip glosses are excellent for creating the appearance of a fuller lip, while the lip liner will keep the lip glosses in place longer and add depth and definition to the shine.

~  Another idea to create full, pouty lips:  after applying your lip color, use a lighter toned  lip gloss or lipstick on top in the center of the lower lip, then blend.

OTHER HELPFUL GUIDELINES:

Using the principles outlined above, LIGHTER colors (and shine) create fullness, while DARKER tones add depth and definition, let’s explore how to best complement your lips:

~  For small or thin lips, avoid using very dark shades.  Since darker tones create depth, they will make the lips appear smaller.  To make thin or small lips appear voluptuous, use light to medium lip color tones, finishing with lip gloss to add shine.  Also add fullness by using a slightly lighter ‘highlighting’ lip color (such as a beige-gold sheen) in the middle of the lips applied on top of the already-applied lip color.  Blend softly with an angle-tipped lip brush.

~  For very large lips, avoid using very pale or very bright shades.  Very large lips are most flattered by medium to dark shades.  If you prefer a lip gloss, use most of the shine in the middle of the lips and blend outward.

WHY select highly-pigmented makeup colors?   Makeup colors that look best for photography and stage are usually highly-pigmented, meaning they contain strong color pigments and are not sheer.  A highly-pigmented makeup color product will allow the user to apply a small amount to achieve a bit of color or it can provide darker, dramatic color when applied more heavily.  This allows flexibility for the user to achieve her preferred look.  Along with being longer-lasting, the strong color pigment in highly-pigmented makeup colors will hold up against the harsh lighting from cameras and stage lights (no washed-out, ghostly makeup looks).  Get your favorite shades of brilliant Highly-Pigmented Makeup Colors at QDazzle.com today!
