Do you adore bright colorful highly-pigmented Eye Shadows, but aren’t certain how to use them?
How about some help…
Basic Eye Shadow Application Tip: When applying high-pigment Eye Shadows, tap the sponge-tipped applicator to remove any excess eye shadow powder before touching the applicator to your eyelid. This will allow you greater control over how much color goes onto your lid. If you make a mistake and apply too much color, use a cotton swab to lighten the shade (avoid using your fingers to try to lighten the shade, natural oils on the fingers can cause the eye shadow to darken unevenly).
To ease into a more colorful eye, you can blend the bright color with a brown or charcoal tone to dilute the brightness but still have ‘color’.
1) First apply your Eyeliner, then use neutral eye shadows tones such as these to begin: a skin-toned beige can be applied from the eyelashes to the eyebrows, then add a brown eye shadow in the outer corners of the eyelid and into the crease. Now you have a basic, contoured eye in which you can add a hint of color.
2) Using your sponge-tipped applicator, blend a small amount of your brighter color on top of the brown eye shadow. There are several options here…see which look you prefer and how much color you’re comfortable with:
- You can apply the bright color just over the brown shadow in the outer eyelid corners; you can also apply the bright color over the brown in the outer eyelid corner and the crease.
- OR you can just go over your eyeliner with the bright color.
Either way, you’ve added a hint of color to the neutral shadows. It’s a very fun way to add some gorgeous fall colors to spice up your eye makeup!
Tip: When using brighter eye colors, let those tones be the focus on your face, keeping your blush and lip colors soft and neutral; otherwise, you’ll risk looking ‘overdone’.
If you love to be hip and daring:
1) you can just sweep the bright highly-pigmented Eye Shadow color across the lid (do not take this bright color beyond the eyelid - avoid applying the bright eye shadow color in the crease and underneath the brow). You can also smudge the bright eye shadow under the lower lash outer corners for extra drama!
2) Paired with a black eyeliner and black mascara, it’s an attention-getting look that shows you love excitement!
Tip for using this daring look: Pair brightly-colored eyes with muted blush and lip tones so your eyes will hold the all the power!

WHY select highly-pigmented makeup colors? Makeup colors that look best for photography and stage are usually highly-pigmented, meaning they contain strong color pigments and are not sheer. A highly-pigmented makeup color product will allow the user to apply a small amount to achieve a bit of color or it can provide darker, dramatic color when applied more heavily. This allows flexibility for the user to achieve her preferred look. Along with being longer-lasting, the strong color pigment in highly-pigmented makeup colors will hold up against the harsh lighting from cameras and stage lights (no washed-out, ghostly makeup looks).
